Aims
ReRight aims to promote ethical and human rights law throughout Oxford University.
At present, the majority of Oxford law graduates go on to work in large corporate law firms in the City. These firms have the resources to promote themselves widely amongst law undergraduates, and are able to attract the best and brightest. In contrast, pro bono and ethical law firms do not possess the financial means to do this to the same extent. ReRight aims to fill this gap: to promote ethical and human rights law amongst Oxford undergraduates and to show law students that the City is not the only career option available to them. This will, we hope, raise awareness of and interest in ethical legal issues and give students more awareness about the opportunities available to them in this sector.
This will be pursued through a three-pronged strategy:
Advancing the education of its members in law and ethics by;
- organizing talks, debates and panel discussions;
- hosting individual speakers;
- profiling law firms;
- screening topical films; and/or other (e.g. mock trials)
Encouraging members to apply for ethical internships by;
- Providing a comprehensive database of available opportunities; and
- Communicating any other information from relevant third parties
Assisting the local and wider community through participation in volunteer projects with a legal focus (from MT 2010)
